coming in from the altamont pass. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. topping our news this morning lawmakers in sacramento may vote as early as today to suspend state senator leland yee. tara moriarty is right in front of yee's sunset district home with what comes next for this once prominent bay area politician. >> reporter: yes we are once again in front of his home but there is no sign he is actually here. he has not spoken publicly since his arrest. while his colleagues are calling for his resignation, yee's attorney says his client has no intention of resigning. china town is the area that yee grew up as a teenager. he worked there a lot as a polishings. democratic leaders have tried for decades to motivate more people to vote. yee's attorney announced yesterday his client has withdrawn from secretary of state. >> it's a very personal choice and so that is the choice he

has made without any political implications. it's the personal thing he wanted to do. >> reporter: yee was one of 26 people caught up in a five year federal sting targeting a known china town gangster that has went straight. he was charged wednesday with conspiring to traffic firearms. fbi agents say they each took bribe money in order to pay off a $75 campaign $75,000 campaign fund. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >> we are also learning more now some of the other 26 people arrested in that same fbi sting. one is sports agent march listen sullivan. the fbi accuses sullivan of

condition after being shot last night in san francisco. it happened around 8:00 on kirkwood avenue in the city's hunter point district. officers quickly sealed off the block. the boy was 14 years old and shot in the upper body. the shooting remains under investigation. washington state is bracing for impending news they don't want to hear. the death toll following that massive mud slide. at least 90 people are still missing. so far everyone who has been found alive was rescued within the first few hours. still rescuers are holding out hope for a miracle and refuse to call it a recovery operation. >> we are not going to run big heavy equipment over areas that we could collapse areas that have a survivor. i want to brace everyone that

is a slim chance. >> they are angry with local officials for refusing them to join the search immediately after the slide where the chances to find survivors were the greatest. and today more local volunteers will head out to help with the relief efforts. nine more volunteers are going to provide support and comfort to people awaiting information on missing loved ones. if you'd like to help, the red cross says the best way is by donating money saying it has plenty of supplies and volunteers. pg&e says it expects to face federal criminal charges as a adult of the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. it killed eight people, injured dozens of others and destroyed 38 homes. the utility has been accused of poor recordkeeping, poor maintenance, and failure to identify safety threats. pg&e says it expects u.s. prosecutors to file criminal charges any day now. >> nothing can bring back the

lives that were lost. the ruin that occurred. if pg&e is -- if the u.s. attorney determine there is is criminal negligence, then certainly criminal charges should be filed. >> pg&e released a statement apologizing again for the disaster. since the blast the company has launched a massive effort to test and repair all of its pipelines. today a former santa claire rap elementary school principal is expected to find out if he all stand trial on drug charges. eric lewis was arrested in 2012 on five charges of selling drugs. methamphetamine, ecstasy, and a date rape drug were found in his home. lewis had been principal of montague elementary school in santa clara. there are a lot of questions following a bizarre series of events in the south bay that ended with a young

woman losing her life. she was killed when a train struck her car at east central avenue and butterfield boulevard in morgan hill. investigators say it all started when she aparticipantly sideswiped a parked car. ktvu obtained home security video that shows her driving. >> she was panicked and made a u-turn and beeline and hit that way. >> she went down two dead end streets and over a curb and on to the tracks. police say it appears she was trying to drive away as the train approached. they are waiting for lab tests to see if drugs or alcohol were involved. police say the suspect robbed a woman at the bank of america atm on wednesday night. you see the man's red sedan in the upper red hand corner. he demanded the woman's money and then made off with her vell

phone-- cell phone. the woman was not hurt. now crews have shifted their focus to a slightly different area after radar data suggests the plane flew faster than previously thought. the new search zone is about 1,000 miles west of purse, australia. although weather is calmer there, searchers say the area is still considerable and conditions are challenging. >> this is our best estimate of the area in which the aircraft is likely to have crashed into the ocean. >> although the plane has not been found, chinese insurance companies have begun paying compensation to some of the passengers families. relatives have received about $50,000 per person but analysts predict that malaysia airlines and insurers could pay $750 million in restitution. today members of congress

national weather service has con termed a tornado has slammed into -- this is after a tornado ripped through the area. pretty amazing to see. homeowners picking up the pieces of their damaged homes as they get ready for rainy and windy weather. >> they moved some of the fence pieces. they had to really do some extensive repairs up high. >> i kept saying stay away from the windows. and now i understand why. >> winds as strong as 85 miles an hour caused major damage to dozens of homes. no reports of any injuries. the late winter storm could keep ski resorts open a little longer. up to 21 inches of fresh powder has fallen in the sierra. more set to fall tonight. this is video from kirkwood. where they have been enjoying the fresh powder.

all 2300-acres are open for skiers and borders to enjoy. head up there, brian. >> i will. time is 4:44. new this morning there is a delay in the murder trial of oscar pistorius. the defense was going to present its case today but one of her two legal aids was sick. the trial which started a month ago is now scheduled to resume on monday april 7th. pistorius admits to shooting and killing his girlfriend but he mistook her for an intruder. starting this fall thousands of bay area workers will be getting a new benefit that could save them hundreds of dollars. local companies that have 50 full-time workers will be required to one new program to encourage using public transit. there are four options. most companies are expected to choose the option that lets workers set aside $130 a month from their taxable income. >> this is very similar to a flexible spending account. more people may be familiar

with that. they can be used for transit costs. >> other options include subsidizing up to $75 a month in commuting costs or providing private shuttles like the ones used by many tech companies. they may also come up with an alternative plan that could get workers out of their cars. there are new concerns about a danger to wildlife caused by california's drought. they are focusing on the exes of toxins in the bay. during rainy years, the toxins are usually deluded or washed out of the bay. but because it hasn't rained very much, chemicals remain in the bay. biologists are were i ared low water levels will let them spread. >> now the clam is here. we're now going to allow it to go further up river and by doing that we increase the area the clam is available to their predators. >> high levels of one chemical

being rescued from lake merit late last night. it happened just before 9:00. you can see a water rescue crew from the oakland fire department approaching the woman there. a spokesman says they don't know why the woman went into the water in the first place. east bay man accused of crashing into and killing a marine is charged where murder. investigators say he drank at least four whiskies and got behind the wheel of his mini cooper early tuesday morning. yone ran a red light and slammed into 23-year-old marine andrew silva. >> he comes back here, this is home, this is supposed to be safe, this is where everybody is supposed to feel at peace. one person makes a dumb mistake and all of this happens. >> a memorial continues to grow at the intersection where the

crash occurs. it includes silva's military boots, american flags, and photos of him in uniform standing with his wife. it has been five years since three uc berkeley graduates were locked up in an iranian prison. now they are dribbing their ordeal in a new book. they took the stage in berkeley last night to read from their memoir. it details the story of their capture and their time in jail. they say they had a tough time staying sane. [ inaudible ] >> i was so desperate in solitary confinement that i was looking forward to interrogations. >> they spent almost twice that long behind bars. their release only came after an iranian court convicted the two men of spying. they will appear at the commonwealth club tonight.
